Volunteering

For the past 7 years, the Maasai people of Kenya have been the recipients of a superbly dedicated volunteer service with the modern dental care facilities of the Maasai Dental Clinic. Experienced dentists and staff, at no charge, competently serve the Maasai people and the local inhabitants.

Here is a brief outline of what an interested volunteer needs to know to help in his or her decision to be a part of our talented group of dedicated dentists who serve at the Maasai Dental Clinic:

Qualified practicing dentist with some experience in oral surgery.

  • 2 – 4 week commitment.
  • Clinic hours are Monday – Friday 9 AM to 4PM.

Clinic staff includes a general manager and two Maasai experienced assistants as well as a gardener, laundress and day and nighttime ascari’s.

Patient population is primarily people from the Maasai tribe, but we also serve the local residents. The dentist will be exposed to the culture of the Maasai people as well as the community that supports the Mara Game Reserve.

Clinic is a modern 3 operatory facility with the latest technology, including digital xrays, air compressor, Adec delivery units and handpieces.

Living accommodations for the volunteers and guests are above the clinic on the second level. A spacious 1200 sq ft apartment with a fully equipped kitchen, en suite bathroom facilities and Internet access is provided.

Dinner is available, at no charge, at the adjacent Siana Springs Safari lodge.

Solar panels in the back provide the bulk of the power.
Adjunct power is available from the generator at the lodge next door.

Clinic manager, William, will lead game drives in the safari vehicle
every Saturday and Sunday at no cost.

Volunteers are responsible for the expense of their transportation to and from the clinic as well as the $300 Kenyan dental license fee. Detailed information on how to make these arrangements will be provided.

The airstrip at Siana Springs Lodge makes flying to the clinic possible.

For those dentists wanting to know more about how they can participate in the Maasai Dental Clinic, please contact Pam Libby for more information. Keep in mind that we book our volunteers 1-3 years in advance. Even so, opportunities do occasionally open up within the current calendar year; so do not hesitate to contact us.
